Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline including angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in influence within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the main group to begin their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes Teor (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to head next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the story’s plot—used the enemy for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a nasty location.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to kill the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the group access locations they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them few options but to head to Timmony in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Seekers and Schemers groups.

Audiences can expect discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
